GNYADA Calls for Continuation of NYS EV Rebate Program

GNYADA President Mark Schienberg met this week with a senior official from the New York Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) to urge the state agency to continue building on its efforts to promote the purchase and lease of Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEV). In the last four years, the State’s EV rebate program for buyers of electric vehicles, called Drive Clean, has provided over $52 million to nearly 36,000 customers to offset the cost of going electric. The program's funds are seriously low and needs a new investment of capital to make EVs more affordable for dealership customers.

GNYADA is happy to report that it received a commitment that the state will continue to support the rebate program and is expecting to announce new funding soon. GNYADA also learned the state will require dealers to go through a new training campaign to participate in Drive Clean rebates. GNYADA will work with NYSERDA to assist Dealers to stay up to date on the program’s requirements in order to help EV customers maximize financial benefits and to increase ZEV sales.
