Governor Warns Virus Could Return

Cuomo to Create New Enforcement Unit

New York’s much touted economic reopening slowed down a bit this week.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that he has delayed the restart of indoor dining at New York City restaurants until further notice. He cited two reasons: weakened social distancing compliance by members of the public, and a new surge of cases in other states that the Governor fears will increase infection rates here.

Cuomo’s decision does not roll back any business openings to date. And, it has no effect on dealer operations. But the Governor did express serious concern that New York, may face problems in the near future.  One reason is that COVID-19 spreads more easily in closed, indoor areas that recirculate the same air.

The Governor also said he sees that “citizen compliance is slipping.” In response, he said he will create a new state-run enforcement unit to bolster compliance.

Dealers should continue to be mindful of the State’s mandatory COVID-19 Safety Guidelines. About two weeks ago, Gov. Cuomo said the State had received roughly 25,000 complaints from members of the public about businesses’ safety compliance.
